The treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Ed Medendrop.  The balance in our checking account was $2,680.50 as of March 31, 2011.  An insurance payment was made in the amount of $1,032.00 (Liability Insurance) and dues in the amount of $1,275.00 were collected and deposited.  Total in checking as of May 27, 2011 is $2,923.59.  On December 31, 2010 our CD amounted to $3,632.57.  The current number of paid members is 63 with total membership at 64.  A motion was made to accept the treasurer’s report as given by Pat Champion with a second by Larry Ruster.  Motion carried by a vote of the members.

Diamond Lake Improvement Board Report:

DLIB report was given by Duane Lowing our membership representative.  He advised that the board has $44,531.00 on hand for weed treatment and expenses.  He stated that there was an increase but credit will be given in September for any overages.  The board has put a lake booklet together and each paying member will receive two copies.  The cost of the booklet was $1,400.00.  Additional copies are available from Pres. Rettig and also Lincoln Township.

Tony Cunningham will be checking the lake for weed growth in the next week or so.  Treatment will be in the first part of June.  Duane advised that there had been a communication issue with Tony but that should be resolved.  He is still working on the dollar weed issue in parts of the lake.

DNR Fish Study Report:

Randy Vredevoogd gave an update of the fish study stating that the fish surveys are not being turned in.  There are a lot of small pike on the surveys and a few over 30 inches caught.  There were 135 surveys turned in so far.  His question to the membership was do they want to continue with the survey.  There is no guarantee from the DNR that continue the survey the rules for pike on our lake will change.  Randy advised that he would continue with the surveys if that was what the membership wanted.  The membership agreed to for one additional year.

Lincoln Township Supervisor, Buck Geno:

Buck Geno addressed the membership and acknowledged the DLPOA, DLIB, the  township and County boards.  He advised that revenue sharing is again cut by the State which may cause some financial problems for townships and cities.  Lincoln Township is OK at this point.  They are still working on a new fire barn but it is a slow process.  They have hired a bond attorney so they are moving ahead.  Buck advised that the Township will complete Gordon Ave to 3 mile as well as the remainder of 4 mile road this summer.  Every 10 years when the census is taken, the County looks at redistricting and they have done so this year.  They have changed the districts and Lincoln Township is now within the largest district.  The Township will get the Lake rules on the back of the sign at the Township Park this year.  They ran into a problem last year as the sign guy passed away.  They have completed the water project at the cemetery.  All parties purchasing a cemetery lot are now given a copy of the cemetery ordinances.  The scouts will be placing flags on veteran’s graves in time for Memorial Day.  July 22 and 23 is the Township trash pickup days.

Buck then discussed Township activities and issues.  One big issue that was brought up was the Parks and easements around the lake.  Buck advised that the parks and easements were designed to give back lot property owners access to the lake.  This was established in 1922.  Buck read a portion of the Township Ordinance.   There are a number of docks on the Mohawk Park that are in violation.  Township Ordinance 08-01 allows for 1 dock and 1 boat or watercraft.  Buck advised that it was a liability issue for the Township to have the parks in violation of the ordinances.

The Ordinance was passed in February of 2008.  The 4 lots directly accosted from the park may have 1 dock and one boat or watercraft all other docks are in violation of the ordinance and violations can be issued.  There were a number of questions concerning this issue.

Ralph Ungrey asked if his father Jack was in violation for over 55 years for having a dock in the park.  Buck stated that he was not in violation as he was directly accosted from the park.  This issue will be a big for both the property owners who have docks in the park and the Township.

A trash can (55 gal barrel) will be placed at the township Park and will be monitored by the Township.  There is to be no trash piled next to the barrel. Dan Nickels will also monitor the trash situation when he does the grass.

June 4 is the road commission’s hazardous waste disposal day.

County Commissioner Barb Geno was not able to make the meeting.
